If you’re on a spiritual path, you may have read a couple John Holland books and perhaps even know him as a renowned psychic medium. Not only is he a spiritual teacher, author, and radio host but he has starred in several TV specials, including A&E’s “Mediums: We See Dead People,” which provided insight into how John works as a Psychic Time Machine, where he’s able to pick up vibrations and detailed information, whether it’s seen, felt, or heard from a past event. He also starred in his own pilot “Psychic History” for the History Channel.
Additionally, John Holland hosts his own Internet radio show on Hay House Radio, called “Spirit Connections,” which has been running for over 9 years and there’s a separate page dedicated to John Holland books and oracle cards over on his website.
John Holland Books and Oracle Decks
We were sent a few John Holland books and oracle decks recently to review, so let’s have a peak at our take on two of those books: Power of the Soul and The Spirit Whisperer. Also be sure to read my Q&A with John Holland which followed a reading he did for me. In this piece, I write about my experience and thoughts.
Power of the Soul
Although this book has been out for many years, this fabulous read helps you tap into your Soul and with that, your Soul’s Purpose. In other words, the content is evergreen and is as useful today as it was when it first launched, I’d argue moreso given the divisiveness we’ve been seeing around the world lately.
John leads you through the spiritual laws that exist in the Universe, all of which mold your life.
We all face restraints and fear which holds us back from leading our true purpose, but when we live a life full of fear, we aren’t able to step into our best selves. These are the barriers which stop us from truly being happy.
When living what he refers to as a soul-enriched life, we can begin to lead a life that makes us joyful in every where and most importantly, aligns us with our soul and our life’s aspirations.
I wrote about the Purpose Summit recently, a new event held in San Francisco which addresses Life Purpose and is well worth a read.
From getting the best out of relationships to the importance of solitude, he takes you on a journey. He asserts that within every relationship, there’s an encoded lesson that you need to learn, some of which may be love, connection, gratitude, commitment, contribution to community and a host of other important things that bring us closer to inner joy.
Outside of relationship, quiet time is equally important so you can assess what it is that your Soul needs and respond accordingly. If you think alone time equates to loneliness, think again, although John includes ideas to help you with your loneliness if you happen to be in your place, which includes some of the things that help me in my own life: journaling and connecting with nature, which I feel is one of the greatest healers out there. Nature, indeed, has a great way of soothing your soul and I agree that Prana (or chi, the life-giving energy from the Universe) is more abundant outdoors surrounded by nature.
Exercise also feeds us, so be sure to give your body physical love through anything that you love that breaks a sweat.
Balance is key: quiet time (relaxation & breathing — the quality of our breath is so important), connecting time (relationships & with ourselves), exercise time (so our body can release stress and we can stay fit and healthy), intention time (this applies to everything we do, including eating — the quality of our food intake equates to the quality of how we feel) and spirit time (feeding our souls, of which done in balance, the above things will all contribute to).
He reminds us that all of us have that inner knowing and intuition, not just mediums, and that we can tap into this when the rest of our senses don’t give us the answers. One of my favorite sections was on the healing power of forgiveness. All too often, we hang onto things and that ‘hanging on’ is what creates the friction and intensity that keeps us away from a spiritual life…..away from living and being our higher selves.
It not only keeps us away from a joyful life, but it can create trauma and emotional turmoil, which ‘sticks’ to us in ways that are far from self-serving. Forgiveness, he asserts, is all about choice and that it doesn’t necessarily mean releasing people from responsibility for their actions.
“It’s a matter of releasing the anguish that your soul is carrying around with it. Whether or not others deserve to be forgiven, remember that you’re doing it for yourself. Forgiveness enables you to use your energy in a healthier and more productive way. Each time you practice it, you have the potential to break the cycle of pain.”
Of the John Holland books available, this was the first one I finished. You can find it over on Amazon.
The Spirit Whisperer: Chronicles of a Medium
Says John, “until people are willing to really listen, then and only then will they truly hear the whispering of the soul.” This couldn’t be truer in my own experience btw, so when reading this when I first opened the booked, I felt immediately in sync before I even started Chapter 1.
He shares that the title came to him because it really felt in alignment with what happens to him in his day-to-day life communicating with the Spirit World, aka the “Other Side.” Thoughts, words, images and feelings are ‘whispered’ and imprinted on his own soul and consciousness, so he can in turn, give back everything to the person who is receiving the message.
I learned through my interview with him and in reading a couple of his books that John is a big animal lover and is never far from his dog, which on nature walks, brings him a sense of peace and grounding. And so, it should be no surprise that he included a chapter on animals on this very touching book.
He asserts that our animals are our children too as well as our spiritual companions because they can teach us so much about ourselves as they give us continual unconditional love. So so true!
What’s fascinating about the book is that he also shares his own trials and tribulations including things that work for him for inspiration, grounding and beyond. He uses inspirational music for example, before going on stage and in other situations. I too resonate with the power of music for a variety of things, including healing, grounding and inspiration.
While I almost always tune into NPR for part of my morning, I also turn to spiritual and meditative (but uplifting) music during the first half of my day as it helps me stay calm and tune into my true self, aka my Higher Self.
Like in the powerful books of medium and psychic James Van Praagh which also truly moved me, John asserts that the one thing that never dies is Love for that is embedded in our Soul which remains in tact when we die and cross over to the other side. We are love.
This is brought up again and again with examples that demonstrate how our deceased loved ones are still very much alive and share signs showing that they’re with us all the time. For example, a sign could be a number, a moved object, discovering a book you forgot you had, seeing a bird or hearing a song that reminds you of them. In truth, there are no accidents — this is Spirit at work.
He explores ADCs (After Death Communications), which can sooth the soul and bring alive their memory once again. I was nearly in tears when I read his recount of a past life regression that he did with renowned psychiatrist Brian Weiss. Like every memory or ‘experience’ that someone has had with the ‘Other Side’, most notably the in between place we go after death, John describes it as a world of the most beautiful and vibrant colors he’s ever seen.
“It’s almost impossible to put it into words — how can I find meaningful and appropriate words to describe something that’s spiritual and in this case nonphysical? A feeling of total peace comes over you when you’re no longer attached to a body or a life.”
In the Spirit World, he experienced himself as the real him (others refer to as the true you, the Higher Self, the Soul of you). The real “you” (the real “us) is nothing but pure consciousness. All of our memories and experiences form a matrix that is our Soul, which remembers all of our lifetimes, even if when we’re in a human body, we cannot.
In this moment, he had yet another validation that the soul is eternal and never dies. John believes that we come back to do what we hadn’t finished in a previous lifetime and choose what we need to do (and be) before we incarnate again. This btw, has been my experience with communicating with the Spirit world as well. Of the two John Holland books we’ve read so far, this one was my favorite.
A reflective and soul filled read, you can get it over on Amazon.
